The pace of investment in Fault Detection & Diagnostics (FDD) is accelerating as the economic and environmental benefits of incorporating analytics into building operations become fully understood.
When selecting an FDD platform, the most significant technology decision can broadly be categorized by the choice between “Toolkits” and “Diagnostics as a Service” approaches. The majority of early deployments adopted a on-premise toolkit solution, with a rule set uniquely coded for the specifics of the building characteristics. This approach is now being challenged by next generation cloud-based solutions which promise a more scalable model and a better match to the dynamics of the facility management environment.
Our paper takes a hard look at how to evaluate an FDD toolkit approach against diagnostic tools that can be deployed rapidly, that evolve and expand over time, and that improve business outcomes.
