How it All Works

Technical Specifications, Advantages, and Benefits of Clockworks on The Cloud

The following is a list of technical specifications, advantages, and benifits of clockworks on the cloud through components built within clockworks, use of specific Azure technologies, and general cloud pro's.

Clockworks on Azure in General

Analytics:

  • Expanding readily available analytics library.
  • Ability for cross level analytics, or meta analyses.

Accessibility:

  • Web accessible anywhere, all the time.
  • Ability for providers to access all their clients portfolios from one login/interface.

Data:

  • Fully accessible historical data access.

Data and Scalability:

  • Ability to accept data from anywhere.

Management:

  • No need for individual on site solution software upgrades. Everyone gets all the upgrades all at once, with no hassle, and at no cost.
  • Cloud vendor handles hardware/network maintenance. No need for on-site hardware/network support and maintenance for Clockworks.
  • Cloud vendor handles operating system maintenance. No need for on-site operating system maintenance for Clockworks.
  • Cloud vendor handles server setup and standard configuration. No need for on-site server setup and configuration for Clockworks.
  • Cloud vendor handles program upgrades on instances. No need for on-site microsoft program upgrades.
  • Single platform management/support. No need for maintaining mass deployments and multiple versions.
  • Ability for automated deployment for upgrades.
  • Single interface for bug/error tracking, and log tracking.
  • No third party software licensing and fee's required per deployment compared to on-site solution.

Performance and Scalability:

  • Horizontally and vertically scalable servers for user based load and usage.
  • Horizontally and vertically scalable servers for handling the load/stress of incoming requests with regards to big data.
  • Horizontally and vertically scalable servers for third party web service integration usage and load.

Scalability:

  • Pooled resources. Ex. Instead of a stand alone server per client using a fraction of the cpu processing power and memory, you can use for multiple clients and autoscale up when needed based on certain metrics.
  • Globally scalable solution.
  • This is a long term solution vs on site short term solution.

Security:

  • Microsoft Azure’s advanced levels of security far beyond most individual onsite deployments, or internal hosting facilities. Additional cloud and Clockworks security outlined here.
  • FedRAMP Approved. Provisional Authority to Operate under the government’s Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program.

Services:

  • Other managed services built into the azure infrastructure.

Clockworks with Azure Load Balancers and Traffic Manager

Performance and Scalability:

  • Regional based distribution.

Reliability and Redundancy:

  • Traffic manager data center redundancy.

Scalability:

  • Two layers of load balancers/traffic managers for the ability of scalable distribution and load/stress handling of incoming requests. Ex: for big data, or high volumes of users.

Clockworks with Azure Table Storage

Data and Scalability:

  • Unlimited data storage.

Data and Security:

  • Data encryption and serialization.

Performance and Scalability:

  • Non-relational tables designed for optimal performance with big data. As opposed to relational table models with limitations, performance implications, necessary maintenance plans, and necessary indexing/partition plans. Platform as a service.
  • Database indexing and partitioning.

Reliability, Redundancy, and Data:

  • Data redundancy. Three levels of backups. Read-Access Geo Redundancy. Geo replication.
  • Additional scheduled backups in another data center.

Security:

  • Clockworks segregated anonymous data capabilities.

Clockworks with Azure Blob Storage

Data:

  • Clockworks ability for data archiving.

Data and Scalability:

  • Scalable storage for large assets as platform as a service.

Reliability, Redundancy, and Data:

  • Data redundancy. Three levels of backups. Read-Access Geo Redundancy. Geo replication.

Clockworks with Azure SQL Premium

Data and Scalability:

  • Cross relational/non-relational capabilities

Performance and Management:

  • Cloud vendor handles general sql database maintenance. No need for on site database maintenance.

Reliability, Redundancy, and Data:

  • Data redundancy. Three levels of backups. Read-Access Geo Redundancy. Geo replication.
  • Scheduled rolling backups.
  • Preimum dedicated resources.
  • Built-in secondary replicas.
  • Automated backporting.

Reliability and Scalability:

  • Cross server session state/view state.

Clockworks with Azure Queues

Performance and Scalability:

  • Distribution of work to queue for worker roles to process in a scalable and efficient fashion.

Reliability:

  • Fault tolerant tasks. Can be rerun if transient errors occur.
  • Queue retries.

Reliability and Redundancy:

  • Data redundancy. Three levels of backups. Geo replication.

Clockworks with Azure Worker Roles

Performance and Scalability:

  • Continual scheduled time zone based distribution of tasks to queue.
  • Auto scaled worked roles based on queue quantity.
  • Worker roles used to process work from queue.

Clockworks Environments on Azure

Management:

  • Easily manageable instances.
  • Easily manageable Development, QA, Staging, and Production environments.
  • Virtual IP swap to avoid staging to production deployment downtime.
  • Backporting capabilities.
  • Partial web role upgrades and role features.

Clockworks Web Services on Azure

Accessibility and Security:

  • Ability to connect from one secured authenticated location and integrate with all your clients data.

Accessibility, Security, and Management:

  • Single management of authentication though Access Control Service.

Clockworks with Azure Caching

Performance and Scalability:

  • Local caching.
  • Distributed caching.
  • External caching.
  • Dedicated caching.

Clockworks with Azure Access Control Service

Security and Management:

  • ACS is a cloud-based service that provides an easy way of authenticating and authorizing users to gain access to your web applications and services while allowing the features of authentication and authorization to be factored out of your code.
  • REST based service that enables a Claims-based access control, the modern way to manage security.
  • You don't need to spend much time worrying about the vast landscape of changing security standards.
  • ACS supports integrated Single Sign On and centralized authorization into your web applications.
  • The Windows Identity Foundation helps simplify user access for developers by externalizing user access from applications via claims and reducing development effort with pre-built security logic and integrated .NET tools.
  • Support for OAuth WRAP, WS-Trust, and WS-Federation protocols.
